The book title of the bestseller by the founder of LinkedIn, Reid Hoffman, is actually self-explanatory: "Blitzscaling: The Lightning-Fast Path to Building Massively Valuable Companies" (published in 2018). This means that these tech companies (especially in Silicon Valley) are investing massively in marketing and building a global sales organization. It is all about occupying markets globally against the backdrop of a "the-winner-takes-it-all" logic in many digital markets.
Profitability is strategically subordinate. However, it can be observed that there is a shift in the mindset since 2019: Investors have clearly put a "development path to profitability" at the top of the agenda of tech companies, and the corona crisis has accelerated this process even further.
