There are plenty of tools that allow you to build AI workflows or set up AI agents (e.g. n8n, Zapier, Make, Vertex AI Agent Builder, …). As a Berlin-based professional working at Beta Systems Software AG (HQ in Berlin), my personal choice is n8n. And I’m sure you’ve heard that name before.

Why AI Workflows and Agents?

AI-powered workflows and agents are more than just automation. They enable you to break down complex processes into smaller, intelligent modules that can make decisions on their own. An agent can analyze data, react to it, and trigger the next step—without requiring manual clicks. This increases efficiency, reduces errors, and unlocks new ways of structuring work: from simple email sorting all the way to fully automated end-to-end business processes that save entire departments hours of repetitive work.

Getting Started with Nate Herk

If you haven’t stepped in yet, I highly recommend starting with the tutorials and community built by Nate Herk. Why? Because Nate offers no-bullshit, straight-to-the-point explanations, practical examples, and a continuous stream of templates for a wide variety of processes—mostly free of charge. Each template comes with a clear walkthrough.

The best starting point is his Masterclass. Don’t get discouraged by the length (8h). In practice, 1.5 hours are enough to acquire the core know-how you need to build your own workflows. If you want to try it out right away, add another 1.5–2 hours to build your first simple workflow. A very manageable time investment, right?

This video includes a range of deep dives and exciting workflows—from automated invoice processing to social media content generation. It’s the evolved version of an earlier Masterclass from about a year ago, which focused more on the basics (only 1.5h, but equally informative):

Community Power

Membership in Nate Herk’s community is free. Currently, about 135,000 automation nerds are active there. You can sign up with just a few clicks at skool.com, where you’ll gain access to a huge library of free templates.

Some examples:

  • Personal Assistant (email & calendar management)
  • Fully automated routines for creating and publishing social media content
  • Workflows for finance, HR, or customer support

Conclusion

With just a 2-hour investment, you’ll have the tools you need to start building your own workflows with n8n—and take your first step into the world of AI agents and automation. From there, it’s all about experimenting, refining, and expanding.

Good luck exploring and automating! 🚀
