Every year again … But since its 100th anniversary last year, the acronym IFA no longer stands for “Internationale Funkausstellung” (International Radio Exhibition), but for “Innovation for All.” The new name reflects the shift toward modern technologies and a broader audience – after all, the event hasn’t been about radio technology alone for a long time. It’s actually surprising that this rebranding took so long.

This year the trade fair ran from Friday, September 5, to Tuesday, September 9, 2025. As always, there was plenty for tech enthusiasts to get excited about: new robot vacuums, smart kitchen devices, tablets, laptops, and much more. But I’ll focus here on just two things I found especially exciting.

1. Smart Glasses from ROKID

Smart glasses are undoubtedly one of the most important product categories of the coming years – as recent headlines like Meta’s new AI-powered glasses from Mark Zuckerberg clearly show.

At IFA, ROKID showcased smart glasses that not only feature a display but also come with integrated speakers. This enables fascinating use cases – such as real-time translation of conversations with another person. An official ROKID video gives a good overview:

2. Robots – with German Participation

Robotics is currently experiencing tremendous momentum. Headlines like the world’s first sports competition for humanoid robots in Beijing – where 500 machines competed in disciplines such as soccer, running, and boxing – highlight the intensity of the global race in this field.

It’s all the more encouraging to see German companies making their mark as well. At IFA, NEURA presented a humanoid robot that patiently sorted laundry. A small but telling example of how such machines might be integrated into everyday life in the future. Here’s a related video; NEURA is introduced starting at 1:57 min:

👉 My takeaway: Once again, IFA 2025 has shown that “Innovation for All” is not just a slogan – it’s a promise that is becoming more tangible with each passing year.
