Transhumanism is a movement based on the idea to optimise the human being in terms of cognitive, physical and/or psychological abilities. The Silicon Valley-Serial Entrepreneur Elon Musk, for example, sees this development as almost imperative, because amidst an increasingly intelligent environment of smart devices (due to artificial intelligence), humans must also increase their cognitive abilities in order not to become obsolete. This is why Elon Musk has invested in the Israeli company Neuralink, which is working on a brain-machine interface. Prosthetics also falls under transhumanism - in a broader sense.

Transhumanistic ideas are processed in a multitude of books and films. These include films like Limitless (with Bradley Cooper, Robert de Niro), the entire Bourne series (with Matt Damon, Jeremy Renner) or the Neuromancer trilogy by William Gibson.
